Toycathon 2021 launched to promote manufacturing of indigenous toys

Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ and Union Minister for Textiles and Women & Child Development Smriti Zubin Irani today jointly launched the Toycathon 2021.

This Toycathon is aimed to conceptualize innovative toys based on the Indian value system which will inculcate the positive behaviour and good value among the children.

While briefing the media in New Delhi today, Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank said, this will prove to be a milestone in the direction of Aatmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan.

He said, toys can play an instrumental role in promoting the knowledge, culture and science of the country.

Appreciating the initiative, Textiles and Women & Child Development Minister Smriti Irani said that this is the first time when school children will innovate, design and conceptualize toys.

She said, India imports 80 per cent of toys and the government is working towards promoting the indigenous toy industry for making the country self reliant in this sector.

The Toycathon will majorly focus on conceptualizing new and innovative toys using local material which are economical, affordable, safe and environment friendly.

The grand finale of the event will be organized from 23rd to 25th of February.

There will be two categories for the Toycathon, one is for online toys and another for physical toys.

Toycathon is an inter-Ministerial initiative of six Ministries wherein nine themes will be promoted under three tracks for junior level participants, senior level participants and start-ups & professional level.

2.ARTS & CULTURE

Denmark's Oscar nominee 'Another Round' to be opening movie at 51st IFFI in Goa

The 51st International Film Festival of India (IFFI) will open on 16th January, with the Indian premiere of the movie ‘Another Round’ by Thomas Vinterberg.

The movie starring Cannes Best Actor Award winner Mads Mikkelsen is among a star-studded line up of movies being showcased at IFFI. The movie is also Denmark’s official entry to the Oscars.

The festival will also witness the World Premier of ‘Mehrunisa’. The film by Sandeep Kumar will premier mid-fest.

The festival will close on 24th January with the India Premier of the historical drama ‘Wife of a Spy’ by Kiyoshi Kurosawa.

51st IFFI is being organised from 16th to 24th January in Goa.

This edition is being organised in a hybrid mode for the first time and will comprise of both online and in-person experience. The festival will be loaded with a line-up of famous movies with a total of 224 films from across the globe.

This includes 21 non-feature films and 26 feature films under the Indian Panorama section. Media registration for the festival has opened recently and is available till 10th January. 

3.SCHEMES

Madhya Pradesh rolls out 'Launch Pad Scheme' to make youth self-reliant

In Madhya Pradesh, 'Launch Pad Scheme' is being started for boys and girls coming out of child care institutions and having completed 18 years of age. The objective of this scheme of the Women and Child Development Department is to provide such a platform to these youth, through which they will be able to become self-reliant by continuing their education and training.

Under the launch pad scheme, 52 districts of the state have been divided into 5 clusters. Five divisional headquarters are being started in Indore, Sagar, Gwalior, Jabalpur and Bhopal.
 
This innovation of Madhya Pradesh Government has also been approved by the Central Government and will be implemented in the current financial year.
 
Under this scheme, the District Administration will provide space to these youths for opening of coffee shops, stationery, photocopying, computer typing and DTP work.
 
An amount of Rs 6 lakh will be provided by the Women and Child Development Department for the installation of each launch pad. These launch pads will be operated through non-governmental organizations.

Uttar Pradesh govt to launch Kisan Kalyan Mission today to double farmers' income

Uttar Pradesh government will today launch a special program named as Kisan Kalyan Mission for farmer welfare and to double the farmers income of the state.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will launch the Kishan Kalyan Mission from Sarojininagar development block of state capital Lucknow. 

AIR Correspondent reports that a 3 week long campaign will be organised in every development block of all 75 districts.

Railway Minister Piyush Goyal launches Freight Business Development Portal

Railway Minister Piyush Goyal today launched a Freight Business Development Portal as one stop solution for all the needs of freight customers.

The Minister said that Indian Railways is an invisible thread which connects the length and breath of India.  

During the lockdown, Railways showed its resolve in delivering the essential supplies to the nation in most challenging times and keep national supply chains running.

The new portal will be game changer in ensuring in ease of doing business with Railways.

The Minister said that last six years have seen an extra-ordinary development in all spheres of Railway operations.

He said, Indian Railways is getting future ready.

India's growth to rebound to 5.4% in FY 22: World Bank



Synopsis

Output is estimated to contract by 9.6% in fiscal year 2020-21, due to drop in household spending and private investment, even as high frequency data indicate recovery gaining momentum in services and manufacturing, according to the World Bank’s January 2021 Global Economic Prospects report.



The World Bank estimates India’s growth to recover to 5.4% in FY22, as the rebound from a low base is offset by muted private investment growth given financial sector weaknesses.

Output is estimated to contract by 9.6% in fiscal year 2020-21, due to drop in household spending and private investment.

Sanjay Kapoor elected AICF President, Bharat Chauhan retains secretary’s post

Sanjay Kapoor, representing Uttar Pradesh Chess Association, defeated incumbent PR Venketrama Raja in a close contest. Kapoor received 33 votes as against 31 of Raja.

Sanjay Kapoor was elected president of the All India Chess Federation (AICF) while Bharat Singh Chauhan retained the secretary’s post in the polls held online on Monday.

Kapoor, representing Uttar Pradesh Chess Association, defeated incumbent P R Venketrama Raja in a close contest. Kapoor received 33 votes as against 31 of Raja.

Chauhan beat Ravindra Dongre 35-29.

Naresh Sharma, belonging to the Chauhan faction, was elected as treasurer, beating Kishore Bandekar 34-30.

Olympic bronze and World Cup winner hockey player Michael Kindo dies

Kindo, a full back in his playing days, was a member of the team that won the lone World Cup for India in 1975 in Kuala Lumpur, beating arch rivals Pakistan in the final.


India’s 1975 hockey World Cup-winning and 1972 Olympics bronze winning team member Michael Kindo died at a hospital here on Thursday due to age-related ailments. He was 73, and is survived by his wife, a son and two daughters.


“Michael Kindo passed away at the Ispat General Hospital due to age related problems. He was bed-ridden for quite some time and was also suffering from depression,” a family source told PTI.

“His last rites will be completed tomorrow as his daughters are reaching only then.” Hockey India condoled his death.


Kindo was bestowed with the Arjuna Award in 1972.

Kindo, a full back in his playing days, was a member of the team that won the lone World Cup for India in 1975 in Kuala Lumpur, beating arch-rivals Pakistan in the final.

He was also in the team that won a bronze medal in the 1972 Olympics in Munich. He scored three goals in that edition of the Games.

Hockey India condoled his death.

“We are deeply saddened by the demise of our former hockey player and 1975 World Cup winner, Michael Kindo. We send out our heartfelt condolences to his family,” the HI said in a tweet.

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik described Kindo as a “tribal icon”.

“Deeply saddened to know the passing away of hockey legend and Arjuna Awardee #MichaelKindo, a tribal icon and part of India’s World Cup-winning team of 1975. My thoughts are with his family and fans,” Patnaik said in his official Twitter handle.

Former India captain Dilip Tirkey also condoled Kindo’s death.

“Hockey legend Michael Kindo will be remembered for his memorable sporting performances. He brought home lots of pride and laurels. Undoubtedly a brilliant hockey player, he also made a mark as a great mentor,” he tweeted.
